Kawasan Falls & Badian canyoneering

The water at Kawasan is a blue you will not quite believe until you are standing in it - a set of turquoise, tiered falls in Badian on Cebu’s south-west coast, roughly 120 km and a 3-4 hour drive from the city.

Best in the dry season (roughly February-May) when the water runs clear; canyoneering can be paused after heavy rain for safety.

You can keep it gentle - swim the pools and ride the bamboo rafts right under the main cascade - or arrive the exciting way, via the famous Badian canyoneering route that finishes at the Kawasan basin.

The canyoneering follows the Kanlaob River canyon down from Alegria: a regulated, guided mix of cliff jumps, natural slides and swims through bright-blue water. You come out grinning and slightly waterlogged.

It’s a long way south, so most visitors make it a full day, often paired with Moalboal’s sardine run an hour back up the coast - a combination our drivers do week in, week out.

How to get to Kawasan Falls from Cebu City & the airport

  • Private transfer (what we arrange)~3-4 hrs

Door-to-door to Badian in a private vehicle, with your driver waiting through the canyoneering or swim. Easy to combine with Moalboal. Request a quote for the fixed fare.

  • Ceres bus + habal-habal~3.5-4 hrs+

A “Bato via Barili” Ceres bus from the South Bus Terminal towards Badian, then a short habal-habal (motorbike taxi) to the trailhead or falls.

What to expect

The tiered falls

Layered turquoise pools you can swim in, with bamboo rafts that take you right under the main cascade.

Badian canyoneering

A guided ~5.5 km descent of the Kanlaob River canyon from Alegria - cliff jumps, rock slides and a cave swim, all LGU-accredited.

Pair with Moalboal

Moalboal’s sardine run is only about an hour north, making a classic two-stop south Cebu day.

Go early

Mornings are quieter and the light through the canyon is best before the day-tour crowds arrive.

Kawasan Falls: frequently asked questions

How do I get to Kawasan Falls from Cebu City?

It’s about 120 km to Badian on the south-west coast - roughly a 3-4 hour drive by private car, or a Ceres “Bato via Barili” bus from the Cebu South Bus Terminal followed by a short habal-habal to the falls. A private transfer is the simplest way to fit it into one day, especially combined with Moalboal.

What’s the difference between the falls and canyoneering?

You can visit Kawasan Falls directly to swim and raft, or do the Badian canyoneering - a guided river descent through the Kanlaob canyon that ends at the falls. The canyoneering is booked and guided locally; we provide the transport to and from the start and finish points.

Can I combine Kawasan with Moalboal in one day?

Yes, that’s one of the most popular south Cebu day trips. Moalboal is about an hour north of Badian, so a private car lets you snorkel the sardine run and visit Kawasan on the same day. Tell us your priorities and we’ll quote the route.

Landed at midnight and our driver was right there with a sign. Smooth ride to Moalboal and the price was exactly as quoted. So much less stressful than sorting it at the airport.
