How do I get from the Mactan resorts to Kawasan Falls?
Short answer
Kawasan Falls is at Badian on the south-west coast, roughly 140-150 km from the Mactan resort strip and about 4 to 5 hours by private car. The drive runs south through Carcar, then west across the island and down the coast past Moalboal - the same road as the Moalboal run with another hour on the end of it.
Almost everyone making this trip has a canyoneering booking, and canyoneering has a start time. The jump-off is at Alegria rather than at the falls themselves, guides run to a schedule, and the last groups are sent through in the early afternoon, so a resort collection at 4am or 5am is normal for this corridor. Send us the operator’s start time in the quote request and we set the pickup from it rather than from a guess.
The car and driver stay with you for the whole day, which matters more here than on most routes: canyoneering ends somewhere different from where it starts, you come out wet, and the alternative is negotiating a habal-habal in swim shorts with your dry bag. If you are being collected from the falls rather than dropped at them - the reverse of this page - we run that too.
Step by step: Mactan resorts (Lapu-Lapu) to Kawasan Falls (Badian)
- 1Tell us your canyoneering start time
The guide’s schedule is what sets this day, not the drive. Give us the operator and the time and the collection from your resort is worked backwards from it, with the road allowed for honestly.
- 2An early start off Mactan
Typically 4am or 5am from the resort lobby. Off the island by whichever crossing is moving - the CCLEX expressway usually being the quickest southbound - and onto the south coastal road.
- 3South and west, past Moalboal
Through Carcar, across to the west coast and down past Moalboal to Badian. Roughly 140-150 km and about 4 to 5 hours in total.
- 4Dropped at the jump-off, collected at the end
Canyoneering starts at Alegria and finishes at the falls, so the driver takes you to the start, moves the vehicle and is waiting with your dry bags when you come out. If you are only visiting the falls, it is a short walk or a habal-habal from the Kawasan trailhead.

Ways to travel, compared
- Private car and driver for the day (what we arrange)~4-5 hrs each way
Resort lobby to the canyoneering jump-off, vehicle repositioned to the finish, driver waits all day, dry bags stay in the car, back to Mactan the same evening. Fixed all-in price for fuel, tolls and parking; the canyoneering package and the falls entrance are paid to the operator locally - request a quote.
- Ceres bus, via the city~6 hrs all in
No service from the resort strip. You would get into Cebu City to the South Bus Terminal and take a Ceres Liner marked "Bato via Barili", then a habal-habal from the highway at Badian. Cheapest by a long way, and hard to reconcile with a morning canyoneering slot unless you sleep in Moalboal the night before.
- Operator joiner vanfull day
Some canyoneering operators sell a package with transport included from Cebu City, and a few will collect from Mactan hotels. Cheaper per head; the trade is a fixed group, a fixed timetable and no vehicle of your own at the end of it.
Add stops on the way to Kawasan Falls (Badian)
It is a ~140-150 km drive, and you do not have to do it in one go. The car is yours for the journey and the driver waits wherever you stop, so a waterfall, an old church or a long lunch can sit in the middle of the run rather than costing you a separate day. List the stops you want in the quote request and we price the day, not the hop.

Mactan resorts (Lapu-Lapu) to Kawasan Falls (Badian): FAQs
How far is Kawasan Falls from the Mactan resorts?
Roughly 140-150 km, about 4 to 5 hours by private car. It is around an hour further than Moalboal, on the same road, and the resort strip adds a little to the start compared with the airport run.
What time do we have to leave the resort?
Usually 4am or 5am if you are canyoneering, because the guides run to a schedule and the last groups go through in the early afternoon. Send us the operator’s start time and we set the pickup from it. If you only want to see the falls, a later start is fine.
Is the canyoneering included in your quote?
No. Canyoneering is sold and run by licensed local operators at Alegria, with their own guides, helmets and life jackets, and the falls have their own small entrance fee. Both are paid locally on the day. We quote the private vehicle, the driver and the waiting time.
Canyoneering finishes in a different place from where it starts. How does that work?
That is exactly why a private car earns its keep here. You are dropped at the Alegria jump-off, the driver moves the vehicle round to the Kawasan side and is there when you walk out, with your dry clothes and bags in the car. No arranging a lift while you are wet.
Can you do the return trip, Kawasan Falls (Badian) back to Mactan resorts (Lapu-Lapu)?
Yes - the same private car and driver, Kawasan Falls (Badian) back to Mactan resorts (Lapu-Lapu) over the same ~140-150 km. Ask for both legs in one quote request and we price the round trip together.
