The turquoise tiered pools of Kawasan Falls in Badian, where the canyoneering day tour finishes
Private day tour · Full day, roughly 12-14 hours door to door

How do I do the Kawasan Falls canyoneering day tour from Cebu?

Cliff jumps, blue-water slides and the turquoise falls, all in one day from Cebu.

Short answer

Kawasan Falls canyoneering starts up in the hills of Alegria and finishes at the turquoise Kawasan basin in Badian, on Cebu’s south-west coast, roughly 120 km (about a 3 to 4 hour drive) from Cebu City, or around 130 km (3.5 to 4 hours) from Mactan airport. The canyoneering itself is a guided, LGU-accredited descent of the Kanlaob River canyon, a mix of cliff jumps, natural rock slides and swims through bright-blue water, run only by local accredited guides.

Because Badian is a long way south and the guided route runs on the operators’ own timing, most travellers book a private car and driver for the day rather than fighting the Ceres bus and a habal-habal transfer with wet gear. With a private day tour you leave early, go straight to the trailhead, and your driver waits through the canyoneering and meets you at the falls, so you never have to time a bus with soaking clothes. Many people pair it with Moalboal’s sardine run, about an hour back up the coast.

We arrange the private vehicle, driver and the day itinerary as a fixed-price quote. The canyoneering activity itself, guide, helmet, life vest and the environmental and entrance fees, is a locally run and regulated activity paid on site, so it sits outside our quote. You get a clear all-in price for the car and driver, and you pay the canyoneering fee directly to the accredited operator on the ground. We never invent those prices.

The day, stop by stop

  1. 1
Early pickup from your hotelearly start

Your driver collects you from Cebu City, Mactan or your resort in the early morning so you reach Badian before the day-tour crowds, when the canyon is quieter and the light is best. You relax on the way; no bus queues, no transfers with wet gear.

  2. 2
    Canyoneering brief at Alegriamid-morning

Arrive at the Alegria jump-off for the accredited guides’ safety briefing and gear (helmet and life vest). This is a locally regulated activity with its own fee paid on site. Your driver parks and waits.

  3. 3
    The Kanlaob River canyon~3-4 hours

A guided descent of roughly 5.5 km down the canyon: a chain of cliff jumps (you can walk around any you would rather skip), smooth rock slides and swims through vivid turquoise water, ending near Kawasan.

  4. 4
    Kawasan Fallsearly afternoon

Finish at the tiered Kawasan basin, where you can swim, ride the bamboo rafts under the falls and eat lunch by the water before drying off. Your driver meets you here.

  5. 5
Your pick: Moalboal or a relaxed drive backoptional afternoon

With a private car the afternoon is yours. Many travellers add Moalboal’s sardine run and turtles, about an hour north up the coast, before heading home. Tell us and we build the day around it. Back in the city or at the airport by evening.

Private day tour vs doing it yourself

  • Private day tour (car & driver, ours)whole day, flexible

One vehicle and driver just for you. Leave early, go straight to the Alegria trailhead, your driver waits through the canyon and meets you at the falls, then add Moalboal or head home at your own pace. The comfortable, dry-clothes-waiting way to do a long day trip.

  • DIY by Ceres bus3.5-4 hours+ each way

A “Bato via Barili” Ceres bus from the Cebu South Bus Terminal runs towards Badian, then a short habal-habal (motorbike taxi) to the trailhead or falls. Cheapest, but slow, and juggling bus times and a motorbike transfer in wet gear after the canyon is the part most travellers would rather skip.

Kawasan Falls canyoneering day tour: FAQs

What does the quote cover, and what do I pay locally?

Our fixed-price quote covers the private car or van, the driver, fuel, tolls, parking and hotel or airport pickup and drop-off for the whole day, with the driver waiting through the canyoneering. The canyoneering activity itself, the accredited guide, helmet, life vest and environmental and entrance fees, and any Kawasan raft fee, are locally run and paid on site, so they sit outside our quote. We never invent those prices.

How hard is the canyoneering, and can I skip the jumps?

It is an adventurous but accessible activity done with LGU-accredited guides who provide a helmet and life vest. The route mixes cliff jumps, natural slides and swims over roughly 5.5 km. You can walk around any jump you would rather not do, and the guides adjust for your comfort. You should be a confident swimmer and reasonably fit.

Can I add Moalboal to the same day?

Yes. With a private car the day is yours: Moalboal’s sardine run and turtles are only about an hour north of Badian, so many travellers pair canyoneering in the morning with a Moalboal snorkel in the afternoon. Tell us your preference in the quote request and we shape the itinerary around it.

How long is the whole day?

Plan for a long day, roughly 12 to 14 hours door to door, because of the 3 to 4 hour drive each way, the briefing and the canyon descent. You spend the driving relaxed while the driver handles the roads, and there is no need to rush the bus back afterwards.

When is the best time to go?

The dry season, roughly February to May, gives the clearest blue water. Canyoneering can be paused by the operators after heavy rain when the river runs high, purely for safety. We keep the car flexible so you can shift the day if the guides advise it.

Is it a group tour or just us?

The car is private, just your party, one vehicle and one driver for the day. The canyoneering itself is run by the local accredited guides, who take small groups down the canyon for safety. A sedan suits up to about 3 to 4 travellers; a van suits a family or small group. Tell us your group size and we quote the right vehicle.

How do I book?

Send the quote request with your date, pickup point and group size. We reply by email, usually within a few hours, with a clear all-in price for the car and driver. No payment to enquire, no obligation.
