Badian: the resort coast, Lambug Beach & Zaragosa Island
Most people meet Badian as the name in brackets after Kawasan Falls. It is actually a whole municipality on Cebu’s south-west coast, about 113 km from Cebu City and a 3-4 hour drive, and the falls are only one barangay of twenty-nine.
The rest of it is the quiet end of south Cebu: a long public white-sand beach at Lambug, a wharf at Manay-as where boats run out to the island resort on Zaragosa, and a Poblacion with a market and a church between the highway and the Tañon Strait.
Badian sits directly south of Moalboal, about an hour up the coast, with Dalaguete over the ridge to the east and Alegria next door to the south. That position is the reason so many south Cebu trips end up basing here rather than day-tripping: Kawasan, the canyoneering start at Alegria, the Moalboal sardine run and the Osmeña Peak trailhead are all inside an hour or so.
It is a long drive whichever way you come, and the last stretch is coastal highway through a string of small towns, so this is a place where a private car with a driver who knows the turn-offs saves a real amount of the day.

A “Bato via Barili” Ceres bus from the Cebu South Bus Terminal drops you on the highway at Badian, then a habal-habal (motorbike taxi) covers the last stretch to the beach or the wharf. Cheap, but slow and awkward with suitcases or dive gear.

Lambug Beach
A long public white-sand beach in barangay Lambug, shallow and calm, with none of the crowd that finds Moalboal an hour north.
Zaragosa Island
The island resort off Badian sits on Zaragosa, a five-minute boat hop from Manay-as Port on the mainland, or 8 to 10 minutes at low tide. The resort runs that crossing itself, on call between 06:00 and 23:00.
Kawasan and the canyon
Kawasan Falls is in Badian’s Matutinao barangay, and the canyoneering run down the Kanlaob River starts next door in Alegria.
Banig country
The town fiesta on 25 July honours Santiago Apostle alongside the Banig Festival, named for the woven sleeping mats Badian has long been known for.
Best time to visit
Driest from roughly January to April, when the coast gets under 65 mm of rain a month; June to October is the wet end of the year at around 190 mm a month, which is also when the canyon can be closed after heavy rain.

How do I get to Badian from Cebu City?

Around 125 km and 3.5-4 hours. Your driver meets you at arrivals with a name board and drives straight south, so there is no transfer into the city to find a bus terminal first. Tell us your flight number and we will hold the pickup against the actual landing time.
How do I reach the island resort on Zaragosa?
You drive to Manay-as Port on the Badian mainland and cross by boat from there. Not the Poblacion, and not the resort itself, which is on the island. The crossing is about five minutes, or 8 to 10 at low tide, and the resort runs its own boat between 06:00 and 23:00. On a confirmed reservation the round trip is complimentary and staff meet you at the port, so there is nothing to book on the water. What you need from us is the road leg to Manay-as, timed to land inside that window.
What time does the last boat to the island resort leave?
The resort’s boat runs from 06:00 to 23:00; a crossing outside those hours has to be arranged with the resort in advance. That matters more than it sounds, because the drive is the long part: 3.5 to 4 hours from Mactan and 3 to 4 from Cebu City, so a late-evening landing can put you at Manay-as near the end of the window. Is Badian the same as Kawasan Falls?
Not quite. Kawasan Falls sits in Matutinao, one of Badian’s twenty-nine barangays, and the canyoneering that ends there starts over the boundary in Alegria. Badian town, Lambug Beach and the Manay-as wharf are separate stops several kilometres apart, so it is worth telling us which one you actually want.
Can I combine Badian with Moalboal or Oslob?
Yes, and most people do. Moalboal is about an hour north up the same coast, and Oslob is over on the east side, reachable across the island. A private car with a waiting driver is what makes a two-stop or three-stop day work; tell us the order you want and we will quote the route.
