Can I visit Kawasan Falls and Moalboal in one day without doing canyoneering?
A gentle falls visit and the sardine run in one private-car day, with no canyoneering required.
Short answer
Yes. Kawasan Falls has a direct visitor entrance in Badian, separate from the upstream canyoneering start, so you can walk or take a local habal-habal straight to the level-one basin without joining a canyon tour. Pair it with the free shore snorkel at Panagsama Beach in Moalboal, about an hour north, and the two stops make a relaxed south-Cebu day by private car.
From Cebu City it is about 90 km and 2.5-3 hours to Moalboal, then about an hour down the coast to Kawasan Falls. At the falls your driver parks by Matutinao church and waits while you cover the flat 1.5 km riverside path, usually 15-30 minutes each way, or use a local habal-habal over the same stretch. This is the gentler option: no cliff jumps, canyon descent or compulsory guide.
We quote the private vehicle and driver at one fixed price. Snorkel gear or an optional Pescador Island boat at Moalboal, the local habal-habal and any activities at Kawasan, and meals are paid directly on the ground. Tell us that you want "falls only" so the driver uses the Badian entrance rather than the canyoneering drop-off.
The day, stop by stop
- 1Early pickup from your hotelearly morning
Your driver collects you from Cebu City or Mactan for the 2.5-3 hour run down the south-west coast to Moalboal. An early start leaves more quiet water time and brings you home at a comfortable hour.
- 2Sardine run and turtles at Panagsamamid-morning
Walk into the water from Panagsama Beach for the free shore snorkel with the sardine run and green turtles. No boat is needed; snorkel gear and an optional Pescador Island banca are arranged locally if you want them.
- 3Coast road to Badianaround midday
Drive about an hour south from Moalboal to the Kawasan Falls entrance by Matutinao church, with your bags staying in the vehicle.
- 4Kawasan Falls, falls only2-3 hours
Take the flat 1.5 km path to the level-one basin, usually 15-30 minutes each way, or use a local habal-habal. Swim in the turquoise pool while your driver waits at the highway entrance. This visit does not include canyoneering.
- 5Return to your hotellate afternoon to evening
Settle back into the same private vehicle for the roughly 3-4 hour drive to Cebu City or Mactan, with a meal stop on the way if you want one.

What the quote covers
- Private air-conditioned car or van with an English-speaking local driver for the whole day
- Hotel or airport pickup and drop-off
- Fuel, tolls and parking, with your driver waiting through both swims
- A flexible order and time for a meal stop on the road
- Snorkel-gear rental, a guide or an optional Pescador Island banca at Moalboal
- The local habal-habal, bamboo raft or other activities at Kawasan Falls
- Canyoneering, which is a separate guided activity with a different drop-off
- Meals and personal spending
We never invent activity or entrance prices - you pay those directly on the ground.
Private day tour vs doing it yourself
- Private day tour (car & driver, ours)whole day, flexible
One vehicle and driver just for your party, linking Moalboal and the direct Kawasan Falls entrance without bus changes or wet-gear transfers.
- DIY by Ceres bus + habal-habalmultiple legs each way
A "Bato via Barili" Ceres bus reaches the coast, but each stop needs its own roadside drop and local connection. It is cheaper, with less control over timing and nowhere private to leave bags between swims.
Kawasan Falls & Moalboal day tour: FAQs
Can I visit Kawasan Falls without canyoneering?
Yes. Ask for "falls only" and we take you to the Badian entrance, not the upstream canyoneering station. From there the level-one basin is a flat 1.5 km walk, usually 15-30 minutes each way, or a local habal-habal ride. Your driver waits at the highway entrance.
Can older travellers do this day?
The falls-only version avoids the canyon, jumps and slides. The path from the Badian entrance is flat but 1.5 km each way; a local habal-habal makes that stretch optional. Tell us about anyone who cannot ride pillion or manage the walk and we will keep the plan realistic.
Do I need a boat for the Moalboal sardine run?
No. The sardines and turtles are a free shore snorkel straight off Panagsama Beach. Snorkel gear, a guide and an optional Pescador Island boat are local extras, not part of the driving quote unless the written quote says otherwise.
What does the quote cover, and what do I pay locally?
Our fixed-price quote covers the private car or van, driver, fuel, tolls, parking and hotel or airport pickup and drop-off for the day. Snorkel gear or a Pescador boat at Moalboal, the habal-habal and activities at Kawasan, meals and personal spending are paid locally. We never invent those prices.
Can we finish at the airport or a Moalboal hotel instead?
Yes, ask for the finish you need in the quote request. This is a private vehicle rather than a fixed group loop, so we can price a Cebu pickup with an airport or Moalboal drop instead of returning to the starting hotel.
How do I book?
Send the quote request with your date, pickup point, group size and the words "falls only". We reply by email, usually within a few hours, with one clear price for the car and driver. No payment to enquire and no obligation.
