How do I get to Dauin from Mactan (Cebu) airport?
Short answer
Dauin is a strip of dive resorts on the Negros coast about 18 km south of Dumaguete, and from Mactan-Cebu airport there are two genuinely different ways to reach it. The first is to fly the short hop to Dumaguete-Sibulan and drive 30 to 40 minutes down the coast. The second is the overland answer our Dumaguete page describes: the length of Cebu’s east coast to Liloan port at Santander, roughly 165 km and 4 to 5 hours, the fast craft across to Sibulan, then the Negros coast road south through Bacong to Dauin. Both end at the same resort gate. They are not close to each other in length.
The honest order to settle it in is to look up the flight for your date first, because it is the leg that might not exist. Cebgo flies Mactan-Cebu to Dumaguete-Sibulan non-stop, and what we will not do is print a frequency for it: the sources we can find disagree with each other badly enough that a number from us would be a guess with a confident face. The route is thin, so the date decides. If there is a flight on your day, the whole southern drive below is work you do not have to do, and you land 18 km from the resort rather than 183 km from it. If there is not, the road and the fast craft run every day of the week and that is the answer.
What the overland way really costs is worth saying plainly, because this is the version people underestimate. Plan the Cebu road at 5 hours rather than 4: our own 4-to-5 range already carries the traffic and the photo stops, so 5 is the number to count back from. The Liloan to Sibulan crossing is 20 to 30 minutes on the passenger fast craft, then it is about 22 km and 35 to 45 minutes from Sibulan port down to Dauin. So from the boat leaving Liloan to the resort gate is a bit over an hour, and the day as a whole is a long one that lands you wanting dinner and a bed rather than a night dive.
Cebu.travel arranges the Cebu-side leg either way: your arrivals gate to Terminal 1 departures if you are flying, or the full coastal run to Liloan timed to a specific sailing if you are not. Your driver waits in arrivals with a name board. Flight and ferry tickets are yours to book and sit outside our quote. On the Negros side we can have a car waiting at Sibulan, airport or port, for the short run down the coast. Tell us the resort name rather than just Dauin, because the resorts sit along several kilometres of coast road down unmarked beach lanes and the gate matters more than the town does.
Step by step: Mactan Airport to Dauin
- 1Land at Mactan (CEB) and meet your driver
Your driver waits in arrivals with a name board. No taxi queue and no working out a cross-island journey with a bag of dive kit, you step straight into a private car or van.
- 2If the flight runs on your date, this is the short day
If the Cebgo flight runs on your date, this is where the journey changes shape: instead of five hours south you transfer to Terminal 1 for a domestic departure of about 45 to 55 minutes, and you are on Negros the same morning. Mactan’s two terminals are separate buildings with no airside link, so an international arrival means clearing immigration, collecting your bag and checking in again - that connection is the part to leave room for, not the flight. Tell us both flight numbers and we hold the Cebu-side driver against your actual landing time and a car at Sibulan for the far end.
- 3Otherwise, drive down Cebu’s east coast to Liloan port
It is about 165 km from the airport to Liloan port at Santander, the southern tip of Cebu, roughly 4 to 5 hours along the coastal highway through Carcar, Argao and Oslob. Pick the sailing first and we count back 5 hours from it, the top of that range, because it is the traffic-loaded figure rather than a clear-road one. A stop at Carcar or Oslob goes on top of the 5 hours, not inside it, so tell us and we move the pickup earlier rather than shortening the stop at the pier.
- 4Cross to Sibulan on the fast craft
The fast craft from Liloan (Santander) to Sibulan, the port next to Dumaguete, takes about 20 to 30 minutes; the vehicle-carrying RORO crosses the same strait and takes somewhat longer. Both are a regulated public fare paid at the port, and the nine departure times we publish are the RORO’s, announced by Maayo Shipping. See our verified ferry timetable for the current sailings.
- 5Down the Negros coast to the resort gate
From Sibulan port it is about 22 km and 35 to 45 minutes south through Dumaguete and Bacong to Dauin. Our sister site negros.travel runs that leg and has the resort-by-resort detail; give us the resort name and we hand the far end over with your sailing or flight time already on it.
Ways to travel, compared
- Private transfer, Cebu side (what we arrange)~30 min to Terminal 1, or ~4-5 hrs to Liloan port
Door-to-door from arrivals, either across to Terminal 1 for the Dumaguete flight or the full east-coast run to Liloan (Santander) port timed to a sailing, with a driver who meets you at the gate. Fixed, all-in price for the Cebu leg, request a quote.
- Cebgo, Mactan-Cebu to Dumaguete-Sibulan~45-55 min
Cebgo flies Mactan-Cebu to Dumaguete-Sibulan non-stop in about 45 to 55 minutes, which replaces the whole 165 km coastal drive and the fast craft. It is a thin route and the published frequencies disagree, so check your own date before you plan around it. Booked with the airline; we drive you to Terminal 1 departures, and we can have a car waiting at Sibulan for the short run down to Dauin.
- Fast craft, Liloan (Santander) to Sibulan~20-30 min
The short sea crossing from Cebu’s southern tip to Sibulan next to Dumaguete, after the 4 to 5 hour drive south. Nine RORO sailings a day each way plus the passenger-only fast craft; fixed public fare paid at the port. See our verified ferry timetable for current times.
- Negros-side transfer, Sibulan to Dauin~35-45 min from the port, ~30-40 min from the airport
The last 22 km down the coast road, or 18 km if you flew into Sibulan airport. negros.travel arranges this half and knows the resort lanes; we can book the two halves to meet rather than leaving you to improvise the handover at the pier.
- DIY by Ceres bus + ferry + jeepney~7-8 hrs
A public Ceres bus runs from the Cebu South Bus Terminal to Liloan port and rolls onto the barge to Sibulan - the east-coast service signed “Bato via Oslob”, not “Bato via Barili” - then a jeepney or tricycle south from Dumaguete. Cheapest by a long way, and the hardest version to do with dive gear straight off a flight.
Landing at Mactan-Cebu Airport: when the drive can actually start
- Clearing an international arrival
- Allow about an hour from landing to the arrivals exit at Terminal 2 - immigration, then the bag. Thirty minutes happens on a quiet mid-day flight, but an hour is the number to plan against
- Clearing a domestic arrival
- Faster: Terminal 1 has no immigration queue, so it is the baggage belt or nothing. Hand luggage only and you can be at the kerb within about 15 minutes
- Which terminal you land in
- Terminal 2 for every international flight, Terminal 1 for every domestic one. They stand side by side with no airside link, so an international-to-domestic connection means clearing immigration, collecting your bag and checking in again
- When the road clock starts
- At the arrivals exit, not at the landing time. Every drive time on this site is measured from the kerb, so add the clearance to it before you plan the far end
- What time we will meet you
- Any hour, including the small hours - that part of the promise is real. We hold the driver against your actual landing time rather than the scheduled one, which is why the flight number matters more than a pickup time you have guessed
- What stops running late
- The MyBus airport shuttle finishes around 9:40 PM, so a late landing has no budget option into the city - it is a taxi, a Grab or a pre-booked car
- Work the sum forwards, not backwards, on an arrival. Landing time, plus about an hour to clear if you are international, plus the drive: a 10:30 PM international landing puts you on the road about 11:30 PM, so a 3-3.5 hour run south reaches Moalboal between about 2:30 and 3:00 AM. That is a real trip and we run it - it is worth knowing it is the trip you are booking.
- Tell your accommodation the hour you will actually arrive, not the hour you land. A small-hours check-in is the part of a late arrival that most often goes wrong, and it is the one part we cannot fix from the car.
- If the far end of your trip has a morning gate, a late landing usually means starting the next day rather than pushing through the night - Kawasan canyoneering, the Osmena Peak sunrise, the Oslob whale sharks, the Simala gate and the Carcar lechon market all have clocks, and a night drive to arrive before one of them costs you the sleep and buys you nothing.
- Domestic connections through CEB are the case to leave real slack for, because the terminal switch is landside: clear immigration in Terminal 2, collect your bag, cross to Terminal 1 and check in from scratch. On separate tickets the airline does not protect the connection at all.
- Send the flight number with your quote request and we watch the arrival, so a delayed plane moves the pickup instead of costing you the car. On a late landing that matters more than on any other run - there is no next bus to fall back on.
Which sailing to aim at, and what missing one costs
- The nine departures
- 4:30 AM, 6:00 AM, 9:00 AM, 12:00 NN, 3:00 PM, 6:00 PM, 7:30 PM, 9:00 PM and 10:30 PM, the same times from both ports in both directions, per Maayo Shipping’s schedule of 1 July 2026 (see our verified ferry timetable)
- They are not evenly spaced
- Nine boats a day sounds like turn-up-and-go, and in the evening it is. In the daytime it is not: nothing leaves between 6:00 and 9:00 AM, between 9:00 AM and noon, between noon and 3:00 PM, or between 3:00 and 6:00 PM
- What missing one actually costs
- Three hours at the pier for any sailing from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM - that is the whole middle of the day. The four evening boats run 90 minutes apart, so a missed 7:30 PM or 9:00 PM costs an hour and a half. The last boat is rarely the expensive one to miss; a mid-day boat is
- So fix the sailing before the drive
- Tell us the boat you want and we set the pickup to it with real buffer, and we will name the one behind it as the fallback so you know what slipping costs before you leave rather than at the ticket counter
- The crossing itself
- About 20 to 30 minutes on the passenger fast craft and somewhat longer on the vehicle-carrying RORO, then 15 to 20 minutes from Sibulan pier into Dumaguete. The ticket is a fixed public fare bought at the counter and sits outside our quote
- A fast craft also runs this strait, passengers only, and it does narrow some of these gaps - but we have never verified its timetable against the operator and we will not publish one we cannot stand behind. Plan on the RORO times above, which are verified, and treat a fast craft you find on the day as a bonus rather than the plan.
- Sailings on this crossing were re-timed repeatedly through 2026, including a reduced schedule for several weeks in May before the full nine were restored on 1 July. Confirm close to your travel date - and if the times have moved, the shape of the day moves with them.
Add stops on the way to the pier
What we run on this route is the road leg to the pier, so the stops go on this side of the water: lunch, a viewpoint, a shop before you sail, with your bags staying in the car. The crossing itself is your own booking. Send us your flight and the sailing you are aiming for, and we set the pickup and the stops so the two connect with room to spare.
- The car waits wherever you stop
- Luggage stays in the vehicle
- Fuel, tolls and parking included
- Entrance fees paid locally, as you go
We'll pre-fill Mactan-Cebu Airport (CEB) → Dauin (Negros Oriental). Put the stops you want in the notes box and we'll come back with one all-in price.
What the quote covers
- A private air-conditioned car or van with an English-speaking local driver for the whole journey
- Door-to-door pickup and drop-off at the exact addresses you give us, not a meeting point
- Fuel, tolls and parking
- Waiting time and any extra stops you tell us about up front, priced into the quote rather than added afterwards
- One fixed all-in price for the trip, agreed in writing before you travel
- Entrance, activity, guide and boat fees at places you choose to stop (paid locally)
- Meals and personal spending
- Accommodation, including a driver overnight on a multi-day trip unless we have set it out in the quote
- Inter-island ferry and boat crossings, unless we have set them out in the quote
We never invent activity or entrance prices - you pay those directly on the ground.
Mactan Airport to Dauin: FAQs
How do I get to Dauin from Cebu airport?
Two ways. Fly Cebgo from Mactan-Cebu to Dumaguete-Sibulan, about 45 to 55 minutes in the air, then 30 to 40 minutes by road south to Dauin - check your own date, because the route is thin. Or go overland: about 165 km and 4 to 5 hours down Cebu’s east coast to Liloan port at Santander, the 20 to 30 minute fast craft to Sibulan, then about 22 km and 35 to 45 minutes to Dauin. Cebu.travel arranges the Cebu-side leg of either, and negros.travel the Negros side. Request a quote and tell us the resort name.
Should I fly to Dumaguete or drive down and take the ferry?
There are two honest answers and they split on your date, not on your budget. By air: Cebgo flies Mactan-Cebu to Dumaguete-Sibulan non-stop in about 45 to 55 minutes, and Sibulan airport is about 18 km from Dauin, so a flight that works turns the whole journey into roughly half a day door to door. By road and sea: about 165 km and 4 to 5 hours down Cebu’s east coast to Liloan at the southern tip, the 20 to 30 minute fast craft to Sibulan, then about 45 minutes south along the Negros coast to Dauin. That is the longer day by some margin, and it is the one that runs every day of the week. The flight is the thin one - the published frequencies disagree with each other, which is exactly why we tell you to check your date rather than quoting you a number - so the order to do this in is: look up the flight for your date first, and use the drive as the answer if it is not there. We quote either, and on the long version we time the pickup to a specific sailing rather than to the hour.
Why does this page exist when you already have a Mactan to Dumaguete route?
Because Dauin is not Dumaguete, and the difference is the part that gets improvised. Our Dumaguete page takes you to the city and stops there; the dive resorts are another 18 km south down a coast road, past Bacong, down beach lanes that mostly have no sign on the highway. Travellers who booked the Dumaguete transfer and meant Dauin end up arranging the last half hour at the pier with their kit on the floor. Book it as one journey to the resort gate and that handover is already fixed before you land.
Which sailing should I aim for if we are going overland?
Fix the boat before the drive, because the gaps are the whole problem. The nine Maayo departures are 4:30 AM, 6:00 AM, 9:00 AM, 12:00 NN, 3:00 PM, 6:00 PM, 7:30 PM, 9:00 PM and 10:30 PM, and they are not evenly spaced: nothing leaves between 9:00 AM and noon, noon and 3:00 PM, or 3:00 and 6:00 PM, so a mid-day boat missed is three hours at the pier, while the four evening boats are 90 minutes apart. Count 5 hours back from the sailing for the drive, then add the crossing and 35 to 45 minutes to Dauin on the far side. Give us your flight number and we name the boat we are aiming at in the quote, with the one behind it as the fallback.
Can you take us all the way to the resort door?
Yes, as one booking across two sites. We drive the Cebu half - arrivals to Terminal 1 for the flight, or arrivals to Liloan port timed to a sailing - and negros.travel drives the Negros half from Sibulan airport or port to your resort gate. The reason to book it together rather than as two transfers is the join: the far-side car is held against your actual flight or sailing, so a late landing or a missed boat moves the pickup instead of stranding you with a driver who has already gone home.
We are travelling with dive gear. Does that change the vehicle?
It changes which vehicle we send, and it is worth telling us rather than letting us guess. Two divers with rolling kit bags, regs and a camera rig fill a sedan boot before the suitcases go in, and a group of four with gear is a van job even though four people would otherwise fit a car. Say how many bags and whether any of them are the long heavy kind in the quote request, and we size it to the load rather than to the headcount.
Can you do the return trip, Dauin back to Mactan Airport?
Yes - for the way back we meet your ferry at the pier and drive you on to Mactan Airport, the same road leg in reverse. You book the crossing itself, as on the way out; tell us your ferry and your flight time in the quote request and we set the pickup so the two connect with room to spare.
What does the price for Mactan Airport to Dauin include?
The quote is one fixed all-in price for the private vehicle leg, agreed in writing before you travel, and fuel, tolls and parking are inside it - along with any waiting time or extra stops you tell us about when you ask. Because this trip involves a sea crossing, the ferry or boat ticket is not in that figure unless we have set it out for you: tell us your crossing and we will say plainly what we are quoting for and what you book yourself. Entrance and activity fees at anywhere you stop, and your meals, are paid locally.
Dauin → Mactan Airport
We meet your ferry at the pier and drive you on to Mactan Airport: the same road leg in reverse, with the crossing your own booking as on the way out. Tell us your ferry and your flight time and we set the pickup so the two connect with room to spare.
We'll pre-fill Dauin → Mactan Airport on the form. Just add your dates and details.
