How do I hire a private car with a driver by the hour in Cebu?

Your own car and driver for 4, 8 or 12 hours. Go anywhere, change the plan as you go.

Short answer

The simplest way to get around Cebu is to have a car and driver of your own for the day. You book a block of time, half day of about 4 hours, a full day of about 8, or a long 12-hour day, and the vehicle is entirely yours: shopping and lunch in the city, a highlands loop, beaches down the coast, or nothing decided until you are in the car. Your driver knows the roads, waits wherever you stop, and the route is whatever you make it.

It works like a personal chauffeur rather than a taxi. There is no meter running and no negotiating each leg: one fixed price for the block of hours, agreed before you travel. Change your mind at lunch, add a stop, stay longer at a viewpoint, and the day simply flexes around you.

It also works for a layover between the airport and Cebu City port. Your driver can meet your flight, keep your luggage secure in the vehicle while you stop for lunch or see a few city sights, then take you to the correct pier by the time you specify. Put your flight arrival, ferry departure and luggage in the request so the quote can allow a sensible margin rather than filling every spare minute.

Tell us your date, where you are staying and roughly what you have in mind, and we reply with a clear all-in price for the hours you want. If you are not sure how many hours you need, describe the day and we will suggest the right block.

The day, stop by stop

  1. 1
    Pickup wherever you areyou choose

Your driver collects you at your hotel, resort, the airport or anywhere in the Cebu City / Mactan area at the time you choose. The clock starts at pickup, not before.

  2. 2
Half day (about 4 hours)4 hours

Right for a focused outing: the Busay highlands loop above the city (Temple of Leah, the Sirao flower garden and the Tops lookout, with the Taoist Temple on the way back down), a shopping-and-lunch run, an airport-to-port layover with your bags kept in the vehicle, or a round of errands and viewpoints. The car waits wherever you stop.

  3. 3
Full day (about 8 hours)8 hours

The most popular block. Combine Magellan’s Cross and the Basilica in the old city with lunch, then continue up to Temple of Leah and Tops in the Busay highlands, or build a relaxed day of beaches and stops at your own pace. Your driver waits between each one.

  4. 4
Long day (about 12 hours)12 hours

For the big trips: Oslob whale sharks, Kawasan Falls, Moalboal, or several of them in one swing. Early start, late finish, and the driver handles every kilometre while you rest between stops.

  5. 5
    Drop-off wherever you finishyou choose

End at your hotel, a restaurant, the ferry pier or the airport. It does not need to be where you started.

Private day tour vs doing it yourself

  • Private driver by the hour (ours)4 / 8 / 12 hours

One fixed price for the block, agreed up front. The car waits wherever you stop, the route is yours to change on the fly, and there is no meter and no per-leg haggling. The comfortable way to fit several places into one day.

  • DIY by taxi / ride-hailing appsper trip

Fine for single hops in the city, but multi-stop days get expensive and slow: you re-book and re-queue for every leg, cars are scarce outside the centre, and no one waits while you visit. For a day of several stops the numbers rarely beat one car that stays with you.

Private driver by the hour: FAQs

How does hiring a driver by the hour work?

You book a block of time, about 4, 8 or 12 hours, and the car and driver are exclusively yours for it. We agree one fixed price up front, the clock starts at pickup, and where you go within the block is completely up to you.

Do I have to plan the route in advance?

No. Some travellers send us a full plan, others just a first stop. You can decide the day as you go and your driver will suggest timings so everything fits. If you tell us roughly what you want to see, we will happily sketch a sensible route with the quote.

Which block should I choose?

As a rule of thumb: 4 hours covers the city or the Busay highlands; 8 hours comfortably reaches the coast or combines several areas; 12 hours is for the far south, Oslob, Kawasan or Moalboal, or an ambitious multi-stop day. Describe the day and we will recommend the right block.

Can I combine Magellan’s Cross, the Basilica, lunch and Tops in one 8-hour day?

Yes. An 8-hour private-driver block comfortably pairs the compact heritage core around Magellan’s Cross and the Basilica with a lunch stop, then the climb into Busay for Temple of Leah and Tops. If you want the city lights from Tops, start later and make it the final stop. Add every restaurant or viewpoint you have in mind to the quote request and we will put them in a sensible order before you travel.

Can we do Temple of Leah, Sirao and Tops in a 4-hour block, and finish at sunset?

Yes, and it is the half day we are asked for most often. The three sit close together on the Busay highland roads about 30 to 45 minutes above the city centre, so a 4-hour block from a Cebu City hotel covers all three at a relaxed pace, with the Taoist Temple added on the way back down. For the city lights from Tops, start mid-afternoon and we time the loop so the last stop lands at sunset, then your driver brings you back down after dark. The small entrance fees at Temple of Leah, Sirao and Tops are run by each site and paid on the day; the Taoist Temple is free. If you would also like the heritage core, Magellan’s Cross, the Basilica and Fort San Pedro, that is the full-day Cebu City and Highlands tour instead.

Can the highlands loop end at the airport or the pier, with our luggage in the car?

Yes. The block does not have to finish where it started, and your luggage stays with the vehicle while you are at each stop. A common shape is a late-morning pickup from your hotel, the Busay loop, then a direct run to Mactan airport or the Cebu City pier for an evening departure. Put your flight or ferry time, your bag count and your check-out time in the request so the quote allows a realistic margin for traffic rather than filling every spare minute.

Can we extend on the day if we are having a good time?

Usually yes, if the vehicle has no booking after yours. Agree the extra hours with us and the driver rather than assuming, and we keep the pricing as clear as the original quote.

Can a driver collect us at Mactan airport, keep our luggage and take us to Cebu City port after a stop for lunch?

Yes. Book the car for the gap between your flight and ferry, and the same driver stays with the vehicle and your luggage while you eat or make a few city stops before the final pier drop-off. Include your flight arrival, ferry departure, pier or ferry operator, bag count and any stops in the quote request. We will suggest a realistic plan with enough time for traffic and ferry check-in.

Is the driver also a guide?

Your driver is a local professional who knows the roads, the parking and the sensible order to visit things, and most travellers find that plenty. It is not a formal licensed tour guide service; for guided activities such as canyoneering, the local operators provide accredited guides on site.

How do I book?

Send the quote request with your date, pickup point, group size and the block of hours you want (or just describe your day). We reply by email, usually within a few hours, with a clear all-in price. No payment to enquire, no obligation.
