Why this window is different
Christmas is the biggest family occasion in Filipino culture, and a large share of overseas Filipino workers and Manila-based family use the holidays to fly home, many of them to Cebu and the rest of the Visayas. That domestic homecoming travel lands on top of the usual dry-season influx of foreign visitors, so flights, ferries, resorts and private drivers are all busier at once, not competing separately for the same few weeks.
Christmas and New Year (mid-December to 1 January)
Homecoming season for Filipino families plus the start of dry-season tourism. Resorts and popular restaurants fill up, especially around Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve.
Sinulog weekend (third Sunday of January)
Cebu City’s biggest festival, a street parade and dance competition honouring the Santo Niño. It draws visitors from across the country and fills city-centre hotels for the weekend, with sections of the parade route closed to traffic for the day.
Everything else runs as normal
The south-coast day trips (Oslob, Kawasan, Moalboal), the islands and the ferries all operate through the season, they just get busier and reward booking ahead.

Airport arrivals
Mactan-Cebu Airport runs fuller flights over the holidays, so arrivals halls and the taxi and Grab queues get busier too, which is exactly when a driver already booked and waiting with your name at the exit matters most.
Cebu City traffic
The city’s normal rush-hour traffic gets heavier through December, and the Sinulog weekend closes sections of the parade route in the city centre for the day, so a city hotel arrival or departure timed near the festival is worth planning with extra time either side.
Ferries to Bohol, Negros and the islands
The Cebu-Bohol crossing, the Cebu-Negros (Liloan-Sibulan) crossing and the northern ferries to Bantayan and Malapascua all see higher demand over the holidays. If a multi-day trip includes a ferry leg, book that sailing as early as the operator allows.
