Where the airport is, and the two terminals

Mactan-Cebu International Airport sits on Mactan Island in Lapu-Lapu City, across the water from Cebu City. It has two terminals side by side: Terminal 1 handles domestic flights, and the newer Terminal 2 handles international arrivals and departures. • It is on Mactan, not the mainland

  The airport is on Mactan Island, home to most of the beach resorts. Cebu City, Mandaue and IT Park are on the mainland, reached across the bridges, so a city hotel is a longer drive than a Mactan resort.

• Three bridges to the mainland

  Mactan connects to Cebu by the old Mactan-Mandaue Bridge, the Marcelo Fernan Bridge, and the newer Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX), which opened a faster southern route. Your driver picks the quickest crossing for the traffic and your destination.

• Domestic vs international terminal

  Terminal 1 is domestic, Terminal 2 is international. They are a short distance apart, so give us your terminal and we meet you at the right arrivals hall.

Your options on arrival

There is no single right way, it depends on your group, your luggage, when you land and where you are staying. Here is the honest rundown of what is available the moment you clear the arrivals hall.

• Pre-booked private car and driver

  The easiest arrival: your driver waits at the exit with your name, helps with the bags and takes you straight to your hotel for one fixed price agreed in advance. Ideal after a long or late flight, with family, or if it is your first time in Cebu. This is what we arrange.

• Airport taxi

  Metered taxis queue at the airport taxi bay. There are regular white metered taxis and the airport’s yellow taxis, which charge a higher rate. Both are fine for a straightforward city or resort run; you pay the meter plus any bridge or expressway toll.

• Grab (ride-hailing app)

  Grab operates at the airport with a designated pickup point. Prices are set in the app, which is transparent, but they can rise at busy times, and cars are not always available late at night or in bad weather. Have a local SIM or airport Wi-Fi ready to book.

• MyBus airport shuttle

  MyBus runs an inexpensive shuttle from the airport to the SM malls, SM City Cebu to the north and SM Seaside City to the south, from where you continue by taxi or Grab. The cheapest option if you are travelling light and not in a hurry.

• Hotel or resort transfer

  Many Mactan resorts offer their own airport pickup, sometimes complimentary, sometimes charged. Worth checking with your hotel; if they do not, a private transfer does the same job to any address.

To Cebu City, Mandaue and IT Park

If you are staying on the mainland, in Cebu City centre, the Business Park, IT Park in Lahug, or Mandaue, expect roughly 30 to 45 minutes in normal traffic, and noticeably longer during the morning and evening rush or on a Friday. The drive crosses one of the bridges, so traffic on and around them is the main variable.

A private transfer takes you door to door to your hotel’s entrance, which is a real advantage in a city you do not know, at night, or with luggage. If you land at peak hours, a driver who knows which bridge is moving can save you a lot of time.

To the Mactan resorts (the closest stays)

The beach resorts in Lapu-Lapu City, around Punta Engaño and the Mactan coast, are the nearest hotels to the airport, usually about 15 to 30 minutes away depending on exactly where you are staying and the traffic on the island. Because you never cross to the mainland, this is the shortest and simplest transfer.

For a late-night landing or a family with young children, a pre-booked car waiting at arrivals turns a tiring arrival into a short, easy hop straight to the resort.

Onward from the airport, without going into the city first

Heading somewhere beyond Cebu City, you do not have to stop there. A private car can take you directly from the airport to the south, the north or a ferry pier, timed around your flight so you are not left waiting.

• South to Oslob, Kawasan and Moalboal

  The south-coast highlights are a direct 3 to 4 hour drive. Many travellers arrive and head straight down for the whale sharks, canyoneering or the sardine run rather than backtrack into the city.

• North to Bantayan and Malapascua

  The northern ports at Hagnaya (for Bantayan) and Maya (for Malapascua) are a few hours north. A transfer timed to connect with the boat means the sea leg lines up with your drive.

• To the piers for Bohol, Dumaguete and beyond

  If you are island-hopping onward, we can take you from the airport straight to the Cebu City fast-craft piers or south to the crossings for Dumaguete and Siquijor.

Which option is right for you

Cebu gives you cheaper ways to leave the airport, and for a solo traveller with a backpack the MyBus or a Grab is perfectly good. The honest trade-off comes down to comfort, certainty and the size of your group.

• Choose a private transfer if

  You are landing late or after a long flight, travelling as a family or group, have plenty of luggage, want a fixed price with no surprises, or are heading straight out of the city to the south, north or a pier.

• A taxi or Grab is fine if

  You are one or two people, travelling light, arriving at a reasonable hour, and happy to queue or wait for a car and pay the meter or app price on the day.

• The MyBus shuttle works if

  You are on a tight budget, not in a rush, travelling light, and comfortable finishing the last stretch from the SM mall by taxi or Grab.
