Cebu airport transfers: getting from Mactan-Cebu Airport to your hotel

Where the airport is, and the two terminals

Mactan-Cebu International Airport sits on Mactan Island in Lapu-Lapu City, across the water from Cebu City. It has two terminals side by side: Terminal 1 handles domestic flights, and the newer Terminal 2 handles international arrivals and departures. When you book a transfer, tell us your terminal and flight number so your driver tracks the arrival and is waiting whichever terminal you land at.

• It is on Mactan, not the mainland

  The airport is on Mactan Island, home to most of the beach resorts. Cebu City, Mandaue and IT Park are on the mainland, reached across the bridges, so a city hotel is a longer drive than a Mactan resort.

• Three bridges to the mainland

  Mactan connects to Cebu by the old Mactan-Mandaue Bridge, the Marcelo Fernan Bridge, and the newer Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX), which opened a faster southern route. Your driver picks the quickest crossing for the traffic and your destination.

• Domestic vs international terminal

  Terminal 1 is domestic, Terminal 2 is international. They are a short distance apart, so give us your terminal and we meet you at the right arrivals hall.

• Flying in from abroad: file eTravel first

Your options on arrival

There is no single right way, it depends on your group, your luggage, when you land and where you are staying. Here is the honest rundown of what is available the moment you clear the arrivals hall.

• Pre-booked private car and driver

  The easiest arrival: your driver waits at the exit with your name, helps with the bags and takes you straight to your hotel for one fixed price agreed in advance. Ideal after a long or late flight, with family, or if it is your first time in Cebu. This is what we arrange.

• Airport taxi

  Metered taxis queue at the airport taxi bay. There are regular white metered taxis and the airport’s yellow taxis, which charge a higher rate. Both are fine for a straightforward city or resort run; you pay the meter plus any bridge or expressway toll.

• Grab (ride-hailing app)

  Grab operates at the airport with a designated pickup point. Prices are set in the app, which is transparent, but they can rise at busy times, and cars are not always available late at night or in bad weather. Have a local SIM or airport Wi-Fi ready to book.

• MyBus airport shuttle

  MyBus runs an inexpensive shuttle from the airport to the SM malls, SM City Cebu to the north and SM Seaside City to the south, from where you continue by taxi or Grab. The cheapest option if you are travelling light and not in a hurry.

• Hotel or resort transfer

  Many Mactan resorts offer their own airport pickup, sometimes complimentary, sometimes charged. Worth checking with your hotel; if they do not, a private transfer does the same job to any address.

To Cebu City, Mandaue and IT Park

If you are staying on the mainland, in Cebu City centre, the Business Park, IT Park in Lahug, or Mandaue, expect roughly 30 to 45 minutes in normal traffic, and noticeably longer during the morning and evening rush or on a Friday. The drive crosses one of the bridges, so traffic on and around them is the main variable.

A private transfer takes you door to door to your hotel’s entrance, which is a real advantage in a city you do not know, at night, or with luggage. If you land at peak hours, a driver who knows which bridge is moving can save you a lot of time.

To the Mactan resorts (the closest stays)

The beach resorts in Lapu-Lapu City, around Punta Engaño and the Mactan coast, are the nearest hotels to the airport, usually about 15 to 30 minutes away depending on exactly where you are staying and the traffic on the island. Because you never cross to the mainland, this is the shortest and simplest transfer.

For a late-night landing or a family with young children, a pre-booked car waiting at arrivals turns a tiring arrival into a short, easy hop straight to the resort.

Onward from the airport, without going into the city first

Heading somewhere beyond Cebu City, you do not have to stop there. A private car can take you directly from the airport to the south, the north or a ferry pier, timed around your flight so you are not left waiting.

What matters here is the hour you land, not the distance. Every onward leg that ends in a boat has a last departure, and the drive to reach it is long enough that a mid-afternoon landing can put the crossing out of reach entirely. The times below count back from the cut-offs we publish elsewhere on this site, using our own drive estimates from the airport rather than from Cebu City, which is 30 to 45 minutes closer to everything north and south.

Work from when you are actually out of arrivals with your bags, not from your scheduled touchdown: about an hour after an international landing at Terminal 2, about 15 minutes after a domestic one at Terminal 1.

A late landing is still drivable at any hour. A 10:30 PM international arrival is on the road about 11:30 PM and reaches Moalboal around 3:00 AM, but if the far end has a morning start, a night near the airport usually beats driving through it.

Same-day onward from the airport: be out of arrivals by (checked Oct 2026)

• South to Oslob, Kawasan and Moalboal

  A direct 3.5 to 4 hour drive to the Oslob area (about 125 km), so this is the forgiving direction: there is no boat to miss and no cut-off, and an evening arrival at your hotel is normal. The one hard deadline is the whale sharks themselves. Registration at Tan-awan closes at 11:00 AM, which no afternoon landing can reach. Land after about 7:00 AM and the shape that works is a drive south the same day, a night nearby, and the 6:00 AM interaction the next morning, which is calmer water and how most people prefer it anyway.

• North to Maya for Malapascua

  The tightest connection in Cebu. Maya’s last outrigger leaves at 5:00 PM and the drive is 4.5 to 5 hours (about 145 km), so you want to be out of arrivals by about midday, and nearer 10:30 AM if you would rather reach the port by about 3:30 PM, because the outriggers leave when they fill and the last one is the least likely to. Island resorts sometimes quote 1:00 PM off a flight, but that assumes a 3 to 4 hour road estimate we do not stand behind from the airport. Land much past midday and the honest answer is a night on the mainland and a morning crossing.

• North to Hagnaya for Bantayan

  About 140 km and 4 to 4.5 hours to Hagnaya port in San Remigio. Sources disagree on the last ferry, with about 4:30 PM and about 5:30 PM both appearing, and since March 2026 sailings are paused around high tide, so the last usable boat moves day to day and we will not print a time we cannot stand behind. Practically: a morning landing is comfortable, a midday landing needs the day’s actual board confirmed with the line before you commit, and we check that as part of timing the drive rather than aiming at a published figure.

• To the piers for Bohol, Dumaguete and beyond

  Pier 1 in Cebu City is the short leg, 30 to 60 minutes from the airport across the bridge and longer at rush hour, but check-in closes 30 minutes before departure, so aim to be at the terminal an hour ahead. OceanJet’s last fast craft to Tagbilaran is 5:40 PM, which means being out of arrivals by about 4:00 PM to have any margin in traffic. Land later than that and the crossing is a next-morning job, with ten sailings from 7:00 AM to choose from. For Dumaguete and Siquijor the crossings are south of the city and we time the drive to the sailing you hold.

Which option is right for you

Cebu gives you cheaper ways to leave the airport, and for a solo traveller with a backpack the MyBus or a Grab is perfectly good. The honest trade-off comes down to comfort, certainty and the size of your group.

• Choose a private transfer if

  You are landing late or after a long flight, travelling as a family or group, have plenty of luggage, want a fixed price with no surprises, or are heading straight out of the city to the south, north or a pier.

• A taxi or Grab is fine if

  You are one or two people, travelling light, arriving at a reasonable hour, and happy to queue or wait for a car and pay the meter or app price on the day.

• The MyBus shuttle works if

  You are on a tight budget, not in a rush, travelling light, and comfortable finishing the last stretch from the SM mall by taxi or Grab.
