Short answer

From Mactan-Cebu International Airport it’s about 110 km to Osmeña Peak, Cebu’s highest point, near Mantalongon in Dalaguete - roughly 3-3.5 hours by private car up to Mantalongon, then a 700 m walk of about 20-30 minutes each way to the summit ridge. That makes a straight-off-the-plane run realistic mainly for an overnight arrival timed for the classic sunrise summit.

There’s no direct bus from the airport - by public transport you’d first cross into Cebu City, then take a southbound Ceres bus to the Dalaguete junction, then a habal-habal for the climb up to Mantalongon. A private transfer that meets you at arrivals and drives straight there skips all of that.

Step by step: Mactan-Cebu Airport (CEB) to Osmeña Peak

  1. 1
    Meet your driver at arrivals

A private transfer meets you with a name board at Mactan-Cebu airport - no queueing or negotiating a fare.

  2. 2
Cross off Mactan and head south

The route crosses one of the Mactan bridges, skirts Cebu City and continues down the southern highway toward Dalaguete, about 110 km and 3-3.5 hours total.

  3. 3
    Climb to Mantalongon trailhead

The final stretch winds up into the hills to the Mantalongon trailhead, where your driver waits.

  4. 4
    Hike to the summit

A short walk (often with a local guide) reaches Cebu’s highest point and its jagged-hill views.

When Osmena Peak is open, and what to expect at the gate

The walk itself
Roughly 700 m from the Mantalongon jump-off to the summit ridge - about 20-30 minutes each way at an ordinary pace. It is a real walk on uneven ground, not a viewpoint you drive to
Underfoot
A well-trodden path over grass and exposed limestone, with a steady climb at the end. There is no shade and it turns slippery after rain, which is when the 20-30 minutes stretches
How far the car gets
The paved mountain road runs about 14 km up from Dalaguete town to Mantalongon - narrow, with switchbacks. Beyond the market, current accounts disagree on whether a van reaches the jump-off itself, so plan for the last stretch possibly being a habal-habal or a 20-30 minute walk
Time to allow
We budget about 1.5-2 hours from leaving the car to being back at it - up, time on the ridge, and down. A sunrise visit runs longer because you are waiting for the light
Which trail
The Mantalongon side is the 20-30 minute one. There is also a Badian-side traverse, which is a 2-3 hour hike over the ridge and a different day entirely - tell us which you mean
Guides and fees
A local guide is normally arranged and paid at the jump-off, in cash. We drive you; we do not sell the hike, and we do not print those rates
  • Settle the last stretch of road with your driver before you commit to a sunrise start. The paved climb to Mantalongon is not in doubt - what varies between current accounts is the short section past the market to the jump-off, which some describe driving and others describe switching to a habal-habal or walking. In the dark, before dawn, that is the difference between arriving on time and arriving after the light.
  • If anyone in your party cannot manage 20-30 minutes of climbing on uneven, unshaded ground, Osmena Peak is the stop to swap rather than the one to attempt - there is no drive-up view of the ridge. The natural same-day swap is the Mantalongon highland market on the plateau below it, one of the biggest vegetable markets in the central Visayas and busiest before dawn, which the car reaches directly and which suits the same early start.
  • Bring a layer. Mantalongon sits at roughly 800-1,000 m and the ridge above it is Cebu’s highest ground at 1,013 m, so it is cool up there at dawn in a way the coast never is.
