How do I get from Oslob to Moalboal?
Short answer
Oslob and Moalboal sit on opposite sides of Cebu’s southern tip, so the trip runs south from Oslob to Bato, then up the west coast to Moalboal. It’s about 65-70 km and takes roughly 2 to 2.5 hours by private car door-to-door. This is one of the most common moves in South Cebu: see the Oslob whale sharks at first light, then relocate west to Moalboal for the sardine run and turtles.
By public transport there is no single direct bus. You take a Ceres bus from Oslob down to Bato, change there to a “Bato via Barili” bus heading up the west coast, and get off at the Moalboal junction, then a tricycle to Panagsama or White Beach. With the transfer and waits it usually takes 3-4 hours, which is why most travellers with luggage or an early whale-shark start choose a private transfer.
Step by step: Oslob to Moalboal
- 1Start early in Oslob
The whale-shark interaction runs early morning; being on the road by mid-morning gives you the afternoon in Moalboal. A waiting private driver makes the same-day move easy.
- 2Head south to Bato
The coastal road runs south through Santander to Bato at the island’s tip. By bus this is the first leg; a private car simply carries straight through.
- 3Turn up the west coast to Moalboal
From Bato the road follows the west coast north through Barili country to the Moalboal junction. By bus you change at Bato to a “Bato via Barili” service; a private car needs no change.
- 4Arrive at Panagsama or White Beach
A private transfer drops you at your hotel’s door. Many travellers add a stop at Kawasan Falls in Badian, which is on the way, and we can build that into the run.

- One boat a day each way between Quartel Beach in Oslob and Momo Beach on Panglao, operated by Apekop Travel since 2017. It is a licensed 90 ft banca, not a fastcraft, and it carries passengers only - no vehicles

- Boarding 11:00 AM at Quartel Beach, behind the church in Poblacion; departure 11:30 AM; into Momo Beach about 1:00 PM. The operator puts the crossing itself at about 90 minutes
- Panglao to Oslob
- Boarding 5:00 AM at Momo Beach, departure 6:30 AM, into Oslob around 8:00 AM. That lands inside the whale-shark morning, which is why a lot of people take it
- It is a beach, not a port
- There is no pier at either end - a small transit boat runs you out to the banca off the sand. The operator says in as many words that you should not mind getting your feet wet, and that this is an adventure trip rather than a ferry service
- Who the operator says it does not suit
- Apekop asks passengers to be in good physical condition and states that the trip may not be suitable for parents with young children, elderly or pregnant passengers, or people with disabilities. We repeat that rather than soften it - if it rules your group out, the Cebu City Pier 1 fastcraft does not
- What people pay
- The operator publishes P1,000 one way and P1,200 for a day return bought at the departure beach, with P800 for Filipino, senior and student passengers, P500 for children 4-10 and free under 4, plus a P20 landing fee at Momo Beach and P100-150 for a bag over 10 kg. Public fares paid at the boat - not part of our quote, and worth confirming on the day
- The 11:30 AM is the plan, not a detail of it. Counted back with our own road times, leaving Moalboal means about 8:00-8:30 AM (2-2.5 hours) and leaving an Oslob hotel is a late breakfast - but Cebu City is 3-3.5 hours and Mactan airport 3.5-4, so from either of those this is a pre-dawn departure to catch a boat that Pier 1 would beat anyway. Miss it and there is no second sailing and no evening boat: the next one is tomorrow morning.
- Where it genuinely wins is Panglao. Momo Beach is already on Panglao, a short hop from Alona, so the crossing delivers you to the island itself - roughly five hours from Moalboal door to Panglao sand. The Pier 1 route is 6-7 hours door to Tagbilaran port and still needs a Bohol-side transfer on top. For Tagbilaran itself, the Chocolate Hills, or anywhere north or east on Bohol, Pier 1 is still the better crossing and we have not changed those pages.
- It is an open-water banca on a single daily sailing, and the operator reserves the right to cancel in bad weather or rough seas. Do not hang a same-day onward flight on it, and in the habagat months have the Pier 1 fallback in mind before you commit. Ask for the Oslob leg as a Multi-day or Point-to-point quote and we time the road run to the 11:00 AM boarding; the boat ticket you buy yourself.
