How do I get from Liloan Port (Santander) to Moalboal?
Short answer
Liloan port at Santander is where the boats from Sibulan land, on the very southern tip of Cebu, and Moalboal is about 70 km north of it up the west coast - roughly 2 to 2.5 hours in a private car. The road runs Santander, Bato, Samboan, Ginatilan, Malabuyoc, Alegria, then Badian and Kawasan Falls before it drops into Moalboal, and it is one of the prettiest stretches on the island: the strait on your left the whole way, with Negros sitting across the water. You do not go anywhere near Cebu City, which is the thing most people get wrong when they plan this leg.
Almost everyone arriving at Liloan has just come off a boat. The Maayo Shipping RORO from Sibulan sails nine times a day each way, first 4:30 AM and last 10:30 PM as of July 2026, with a passenger-only fast craft doing the same 20-to-30-minute crossing (see our verified ferry timetable). If you are coming from Siquijor you will have crossed to Dumaguete first, then taken the same Sibulan boat over, so you tend to land later in the day than you planned and with more luggage than you remembered.
That is the whole case for having a driver at the pier. There are Ceres buses up the west coast and they do reach Moalboal, but they are slow, they stop constantly, and boarding one with dive gear after two ferries is nobody’s idea of a good arrival. Cebu.travel meets your boat at Liloan and runs you straight to your resort at Panagsama, White Beach or anywhere in between, fixed price, luggage in the vehicle. Tell us the sailing you are on - or that you have not booked one yet, which is completely normal - and we will time the pickup to the boat rather than to a guess.
Step by step: Liloan Port (Santander) to Moalboal
- 1Land at Liloan port, Santander
Your driver waits at the terminal as you come off the ramp. The port is small and there is only one way out, so you will not lose each other - and there is no scramble for a habal-habal or a seat on a bus with your bags.
- 2North through Samboan and Malabuyoc
The coastal highway turns up Cebu’s west side through Bato, Samboan, Ginatilan and Malabuyoc. Quiet road, sea the whole way, and the traffic that clogs the Cebu City side simply is not here.
- 3Past Badian and Kawasan Falls
Alegria and Badian come next - the canyoneering start and Kawasan Falls sit a few minutes off the highway. If you want to break the drive there, say so in the quote request and we will build in the time rather than rushing past it.
- 4Arrive in Moalboal
Roughly 2 to 2.5 hours after the pier you are at Panagsama Beach, White Beach (Basdaku) or your resort door. The sardine run is snorkelled straight off the shore at Panagsama, so plenty of people are in the water the same afternoon.

Ways to travel, compared
- Private transfer, Liloan port to Moalboal (what we arrange)~2-2.5 hrs
A car or van meeting your boat at Liloan and taking you door to door to your Moalboal resort, timed to the sailing you are on. Dive gear and suitcases stay in the vehicle. Fixed, all-in price - request a quote.
- DIY by Ceres bus up the west coast~3-4 hrs
The west-side Ceres buses do run between Liloan and Moalboal, and they are cheap. They are also slow, they stop in every town, luggage space is whatever you can hold, and you may be standing. Fine with a daypack after a morning crossing; grim with dive gear at dusk.
- The crossing that got you here: Sibulan to Liloan~20-30 min
Nine Maayo Shipping RORO sailings a day each way, 4:30 AM to 10:30 PM as of July 2026, plus a passenger-only fast craft. A fixed public fare paid at the port, outside our quote. Departure times are the same from both sides - see our verified ferry timetable.
Liloan Port (Santander) to Moalboal: FAQs
How far is Moalboal from Liloan Port in Santander?
About 70 km north up Cebu’s west coast, which is 2 to 2.5 hours by private car. The road runs through Bato, Samboan, Ginatilan, Malabuyoc, Alegria and Badian. You do not pass through Cebu City at all - it is 90 km in the opposite direction.
I am coming from Dumaguete or Siquijor - is Liloan the right port for Moalboal?
For Dumaguete, yes: the Sibulan to Liloan crossing is the short one and it is the timetable we have verified. From Siquijor you cross to Dumaguete first, then take the same Sibulan boat. Worth knowing: the Tampi to Bato crossing lands you further up Cebu’s west coast, which is nearer Moalboal, but we have not verified its current sailing times so we will not print them - ask us and we will tell you honestly which works better for the boat you can actually get on.
Can you meet us at the pier if we have not booked our ferry yet?
Yes, and most people have not. Give us the day and roughly when you expect to cross and we will hold the pickup to your arrival; boats are frequent enough on this crossing that a firm sailing is rarely needed in advance. Send us the sailing once you have it and we will lock the timing to it.
Can we stop at Kawasan Falls on the way to Moalboal?
Easily - Badian is right on the route, roughly half an hour short of Moalboal, so it costs you a detour of minutes rather than a separate day. Canyoneering starts at Alegria, also on the way. Say so in the quote request so we allow the hours for it instead of quoting a straight transfer.
How long does the whole trip from Dumaguete to Moalboal take?
Allow around 3 to 3.5 hours door to door: 15 to 20 minutes from Dumaguete to Sibulan port, 20 to 30 minutes on the crossing, time at each pier, then 2 to 2.5 hours up the coast from Liloan. Landing mid-morning generally has you in the water at Panagsama the same afternoon.
Do you arrange the ferry ticket too?
No, and we would rather say so plainly. The crossing is a public service at a fixed fare paid at the port - you buy it at the counter, not from anyone offering to arrange it in the car park. What we arrange is the Cebu-side road leg, timed to your boat.
Can you do the return trip, Moalboal back to Liloan Port (Santander)?
Yes - the same private car and driver, Moalboal back to Liloan Port (Santander) over the same ~70 km. Ask for both legs in one quote request and we price the round trip together.
Moalboal → Liloan Port (Santander)
