How do I get from Mactan-Cebu Airport to Carcar?
Short answer
From Mactan-Cebu International Airport it is about 50 km to Carcar City, roughly a 1.5-2 hour drive south on the highway. That makes it realistic to head straight there from a morning landing for the heritage plaza and a lechon lunch, or to fold it into a longer south-Cebu day with Simala Shrine about 18 km further on.
There is no direct bus or jeepney from the airport to Carcar - by public transport you would first cross into Cebu City, then pick up a southbound Ceres bus from the South Bus Terminal. A private transfer that meets you at arrivals and drives straight there skips that first leg entirely.
Step by step: Mactan-Cebu Airport (CEB) to Carcar City
- 1Meet your driver at arrivals
A private transfer meets you with a name board at Mactan-Cebu airport - no queueing or negotiating a fare.
- 2Cross off Mactan and head south
The route crosses one of the Mactan bridges, skirts Cebu City and continues down the southern highway, about 50 km and 1.5-2 hours total.
- 3Walk the plaza, then eat
The church, ancestral houses and rotunda are an easy stroll; the public-market lechon stalls are the reason most people come.
- 4Carry on south if you want to
Simala Shrine is about 18 km further (roughly another 30 minutes), and Oslob, Moalboal and Osmeña Peak all continue from Carcar.

Ways to travel, compared
- Airport transfer + Carcar (what we arrange)~1.5-2 hrs
Meet-and-greet at arrivals, then straight south to the heritage plaza and lechon market. Fixed price for any flight time - request a quote.
- Taxi/city transfer + Ceres bus (public)~2.5 hrs+
No direct route from the airport - first reach the Cebu South Bus Terminal, then a southbound Ceres bus down the highway to Carcar.
When Carcar is open, and what to expect at the gate
- Public market
- Open daily from about 5:00 AM. The lechon strip is a morning trade and thins through the afternoon
- Best time for lechon
- Mid-morning to just before noon, while the pigs are freshest and the choice is widest
- Entry
- Free - the market, the plaza and the church are all open to walk
- Payment
- Cash. Market stalls do not take cards; there are bank ATMs in the town centre
- Heritage walk
- The plaza circuit - church, rotunda and the ancestral houses around it - takes 20-45 minutes on foot
- Ancestral houses
- Mostly private homes. A few open as small heritage museums, usually at weekends, on irregular hours - ask at the plaza on the day
- Time the drive to the lechon, not to the distance. From Cebu City this is ~40 km but 1-1.5 hours in real traffic, so leaving the city around 8:00-9:00 AM puts you in the market inside the best window; arrive late afternoon and the stalls that are left are the ones nobody else wanted.
- The market’s closing time is reported differently by different sources - 7:00 PM and 10:00 PM both appear - so we are not printing one we cannot stand behind. It does not change the plan either way: the lechon is a morning and early-afternoon trade, whatever time the building shuts.
- You buy lechon by weight and eat it there. The rebuilt market has an upstairs dining area, with rice, puso and drinks from the surrounding stalls.
- The two things people carry home are ampao, a puffed-rice candy, and Carcar chicharon, cut thicker than the usual Visayan kind. Both are market stalls, both cash.
- Guides to the town warn that southbound and city-bound buses fill from late afternoon, with the 4:00-6:00 PM window the worst for a seat. It is the main reason a waiting car pays off here: you leave when you have finished eating rather than when there is room on a bus.
- Saint Catherine of Alexandria Parish Church anchors the plaza and is working parish, not a museum - services run through the day, and a mass in progress is a good moment to walk the ancestral houses instead.
