How do I get from Moalboal to Liloan Port (Santander) for the Negros ferry?
Short answer
Moalboal to Liloan port at Santander is about 70 km straight back down Cebu’s west coast - 2 to 2.5 hours by private car through Badian, Alegria, Malabuyoc, Ginatilan, Samboan and Bato. Liloan is where the boats leave for Sibulan, the port beside Dumaguete, and it is the standard way off the island for anyone carrying on to Negros, Apo Island or Siquijor without backtracking to Cebu City.
The crossing is short, and there are nine Maayo Shipping RORO sailings a day in each direction between 4:30 AM and 10:30 PM as of July 2026, with a passenger-only fast craft doing the same strait in about 20 to 30 minutes. Nine sounds like turn-up-and-go and in the evening it is, but the daytime boats sit three hours apart - nothing leaves between 9:00 AM and noon, or noon and 3:00 PM, or 3:00 and 6:00 PM. Departure times are the same from Liloan as from Sibulan, so the planning question is which boat you are aiming at: with a 2-to-2.5-hour drive behind you, watching one pull out as you park costs the rest of the morning, not twenty minutes. From Sibulan it is another 15 to 20 minutes into Dumaguete, or straight round to Dumaguete port if Siquijor is next.

They also stop everywhere, and you are timing a ferry off a bus you do not control - which is how people end up on the 10:30 PM sailing rather than an afternoon one.

Which sailing to aim at, and what missing one costs

- Nine boats a day sounds like turn-up-and-go, and in the evening it is. In the daytime it is not: nothing leaves between 6:00 and 9:00 AM, between 9:00 AM and noon, between noon and 3:00 PM, or between 3:00 and 6:00 PM
- What missing one actually costs
- Three hours at the pier for any sailing from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM - that is the whole middle of the day. The four evening boats run 90 minutes apart, so a missed 7:30 PM or 9:00 PM costs an hour and a half. The last boat is rarely the expensive one to miss; a mid-day boat is

Plan on the RORO times above, which are verified, and treat a fast craft you find on the day as a bonus rather than the plan.
- Sailings on this crossing were re-timed repeatedly through 2026, including a reduced schedule for several weeks in May before the full nine were restored on 1 July. Confirm close to your travel date - and if the times have moved, the shape of the day moves with them.

How long does it take to get from Moalboal to Liloan Port?

What time should I leave Moalboal to catch the ferry?
Work back from your sailing and add the 2 to 2.5 hour drive plus time at the pier. Do it against a named boat, not against the timetable in general: the nine daily departures are 4:30 AM, 6:00 AM, 9:00 AM, 12:00 NN, 3:00 PM, 6:00 PM, 7:30 PM, 9:00 PM and 10:30 PM, and every gap from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM is a full three hours. So the 9:00 AM boat wants you leaving Moalboal by about 6:15 AM, the noon by about 9:15 AM, the 3:00 PM by about 12:15 PM and the 6:00 PM by about 3:15 PM - the drive at the top of its range plus time at the counter. Slip the noon and you are waiting until 3:00 PM. Tell us the boat and we will set the pickup to it. Times do change; confirm close to your travel date.
Can I get from Moalboal to Dumaguete in one day?
Comfortably. Allow roughly 3 to 3.5 hours door to door: 2 to 2.5 hours to Liloan, a 20-to-30-minute crossing, then 15 to 20 minutes from Sibulan into Dumaguete. A morning start from Moalboal generally means lunch on Negros.
Is Liloan the right port if I am going to Siquijor?
It is the usual one. You cross to Sibulan, go round to Dumaguete port, and take a fast craft on to Siquijor - about 45 minutes to an hour, landing at Siquijor town port or Larena. That is two timed crossings after a two-hour drive, so it is worth having the road leg timed properly rather than hoping.
Should I cross at Bato instead?
Possibly, if you are heading further up the Negros coast or travelling late - Bato (Samboan) is on this same road, about half an hour before Liloan, and crosses to Tampi in about 30 minutes. At least seven sailings a day run each way: 5:00 AM, 8:00 AM, 10:30 AM, 2:00 PM, 5:00 PM, 8:00 PM and 11:30 PM, the times every published schedule agrees on, though some list more. That last boat is an hour later than Liloan-Sibulan’s 10:30 PM. For Dumaguete itself, Liloan still lands you closest. Ask us and we will give you the honest comparison for your date.
Do you take us all the way to Dumaguete?

Do you book the whale sharks or the canyoneering for us, or do we buy those on the day?
The drive, the driver and the waiting time are ours and they are in the quote. Whatever is sold at the far end is bought there: whale-shark watching is registered in person at the Oslob desk and cannot be booked ahead by us or by anyone, canyoneering is booked on the day with the licensed Alegria operators, and falls entrances and the Moalboal environmental fee are paid at the gate. The exception is Sumilon, where the day-use pass must be reserved with the resort before you travel. So the thing worth getting right in the quote is the arrival time rather than a reservation, and that is the part we plan. How much notice do you need - can I book this for tomorrow?
Usually yes. There is no minimum notice on this route and no cut-off hour, so a request for tomorrow, or for later today, is worth sending rather than writing off. What settles it is whether a vetted driver is free for the time you need, and you will have the answer and the price by email the same day, usually within a few hours. A very early start is routine here rather than a complication. The part that gets harder with less notice is choice - holding a particular vehicle size or an exact pickup hour - not whether the journey can happen, so send the date and, if the timing is tight, the hour you need to be moving.
Do I pay anything up front, and when do I pay the rest?
