Short answer

The Mactan resort strip is roughly 130-140 km from Oslob and about 4 to 4.5 hours by private car up the east coast through Santander, Argao and Carcar, then across onto Mactan island. It is the longest return leg we run to these resorts, and for most guests it is the second half of a day that started in the middle of the night.

The whale-shark interaction at Tan-awan runs at first light, so the drive back is an afternoon drive, and afternoon is when the last twenty kilometres matter. The open coastal highway is fast; the Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu approach at the end is not, which is why the CCLEX expressway is often the better northbound choice. Your driver picks on the day.

Nearly everybody adds Tumalog Falls, ten minutes from Tan-awan, before starting north, and the driver waits for it. Name your resort when you ask for the quote: Maribago, Punta Engano and Cordova are a real distance apart, and the exact property is what makes the arrival time something we can commit to.

Step by step: Oslob to Mactan resorts (Lapu-Lapu)

  1. 1
    Finish at Tan-awan

The interaction is short and early, so most groups are done well before mid-morning with the whole day still to come.

  2. 2
Tumalog Falls, if you want it

Ten minutes away and the natural second stop. The driver waits, so it does not have to be decided before you set off.

  3. 3
    North up the east coast

The coastal highway back through Santander, Argao, Dalaguete and Carcar. Roughly 130-140 km all in.

  4. 4
    Over onto Mactan

The CCLEX expressway or one of the bridges, then through Lapu-Lapu to your resort lobby, usually late afternoon or early evening.

Ways to travel, compared

  • Private car and driver for the day (what we arrange)~4-4.5 hrs each way

Driver waits at Tan-awan and Tumalog and brings you back to the resort lobby the same day. Fixed all-in price covering fuel, tolls and parking; whale shark and waterfall fees are paid locally - request a quote.

  • Ceres bus, then across the city~6+ hrs all in

A northbound Ceres Liner marked "Bato via Oslob" to the Cebu South Bus Terminal, stopping the length of the coast, then a taxi or ride-hail across the city and over the bridge. By far the cheapest and by far the longest.

  • Joiner group tourfull day

Shared vans run this loop and some will drop back at Mactan hotels. Cheaper per head, and the trade is the timetable: a full vehicle, a fixed itinerary and no waiting while you add Tumalog or stay another twenty minutes.

Want more than a transfer?

Add stops on the way to Mactan resorts (Lapu-Lapu)

It is a ~130-140 km drive, and you do not have to do it in one go. The car is yours for the journey and the driver waits wherever you stop, so a waterfall, an old church or a long lunch can sit in the middle of the run rather than costing you a separate day. List the stops you want in the quote request and we price the day, not the hop.

  • The car waits at every stop
  • Luggage stays in the vehicle
  • Fuel, tolls and parking included
  • Entrance fees paid locally, as you go

We'll pre-fill Oslob Mactan / Lapu-Lapu (resorts). Put the stops you want in the notes box and we'll come back with one all-in price.

What the quote covers

Included
  • A private air-conditioned car or van with an English-speaking local driver for the whole journey
  • Door-to-door pickup and drop-off at the exact addresses you give us, not a meeting point
  • Fuel, tolls and parking
  • Waiting time and any extra stops you tell us about up front, priced into the quote rather than added afterwards
  • One fixed all-in price for the trip, agreed in writing before you travel
Paid locally, not in our quote
  • Entrance, activity, guide and boat fees at places you choose to stop (paid locally)
  • Meals and personal spending
  • Accommodation, including a driver overnight on a multi-day trip unless we have set it out in the quote
  • Inter-island ferry and boat crossings, unless we have set them out in the quote

We never invent activity or entrance prices - you pay those directly on the ground.

Oslob to Mactan resorts (Lapu-Lapu): FAQs

How long is the drive back from Oslob to the Mactan resorts?

About 4 to 4.5 hours for the 130-140 km. Northbound it is an afternoon drive, so the slow part is the city and the bridge at the end rather than the coastal highway.

Will we be back at the resort the same day?

Yes, that is the normal shape of it. A pre-dawn start for the whale sharks has most groups back on Mactan in the late afternoon or early evening, which is why the driver stays with you rather than dropping you and leaving.

Is the whale shark fee in your quote?

No. The interaction fee is set and collected by the local authority at Tan-awan and paid there on the day, as is the small fee at Tumalog Falls. We quote the vehicle, the driver and the waiting time, and we will not invent a figure for something we do not sell.

Can we add Sumilon or a lunch stop on the way back?

Tumalog is on the doorstep and almost everyone takes it. Sumilon is a boat from Bancogon and needs its own arrangement, so tell us at quote stage and we set the day out honestly rather than promise it in the car.

Can you do the return trip, Mactan resorts (Lapu-Lapu) back to Oslob?

Yes - the same private car and driver, Mactan resorts (Lapu-Lapu) back to Oslob over the same ~130-140 km. Ask for both legs in one quote request and we price the round trip together.

What does the price for Oslob to Mactan resorts (Lapu-Lapu) include?

The quote is one fixed all-in price for the trip, agreed in writing before you travel, and fuel, tolls and parking are inside it - along with any waiting time or extra stops you tell us about when you ask. What stays separate is what you would choose anyway: entrance, activity and boat fees at the places you stop, your meals, and your accommodation. We do not invent activity prices, so those you pay directly on the ground.
