How do I get to Camotes Islands from Cebu City?
Short answer
To reach Camotes Islands from Cebu City you drive north to Danao City port, about 35 km and roughly 1 to 1.5 hours depending on the north-corridor traffic, then take the Danao to Consuelo (Poro Island) roll-on-roll-off ferry, around 2 to 2.5 hours. There is no bridge to Camotes, so every trip includes this crossing. Cebu.travel arranges a private car or van from your hotel straight to Danao port, timed to the sailing you want, so you skip the North Bus Terminal and reach the ferry relaxed and on time.
Camotes (Pacijan, Poro and Ponson) sits off Cebu’s north-east coast and is loved for Santiago Bay, Lake Danao, Timubo Cave and quiet white-sand beaches. The ferry lands at Consuelo on Poro; from there it is about 30 to 45 minutes across the causeway to San Francisco on Pacijan, where most resorts are. There are four sailings a day - 5:30 AM, 8:30 AM, 2:30 PM and 5:30 PM - with a six-hour hole between the morning and afternoon boats, so we build the transfer around the sailing you want and get you to the terminal with the check-in hour intact.
Step by step: Cebu City to Camotes Islands
- 1Pickup from your Cebu City hotel
Your driver collects you at the door in a private car or van. No taxi to the North Bus Terminal and no hauling luggage between buses.
- 2Drive north to Danao City port
It is about 35 km up the coastal highway through Mandaue and Consolacion to Danao, roughly 1 to 1.5 hours depending on traffic. We time the run to reach the terminal in good time for your ferry.
- 3Board the Danao to Consuelo ferry
The roll-on-roll-off ferry crosses to Consuelo port on Poro Island in about 2 to 2.5 hours. Four sailings a day - 5:30 AM, 8:30 AM, 2:30 PM and 5:30 PM - with a small public fare paid at the port. Check-in advice runs from 30 to 60 minutes and we plan on the hour.
- 4Reach your resort on Camotes
From Consuelo it is about 30 to 45 minutes across the causeway to San Francisco (Santiago Bay), where most resorts are. Tell us your resort and we can arrange onward island transport.

Ways to travel, compared
- Private transfer to Danao port (what we arrange)~1-1.5 hrs
Door-to-door from your Cebu City hotel to the Danao ferry terminal in a private car or van, timed to your sailing. Fixed, all-in price - request a quote. We can also arrange onward transport on Camotes.
- Ceres bus from the North Bus Terminal~1.5-2 hrs to Danao
A Ceres bus from Cebu’s North Bus Terminal to Danao, then the ferry. Cheapest option, but a terminal transfer, luggage limits and the risk of missing a sailing.
- Danao to Consuelo RORO ferry~2-2.5 hrs
The sea crossing every route shares - a roll-on-roll-off ferry from Danao to Consuelo on Poro. Four departures a day (5:30 AM, 8:30 AM, 2:30 PM, 5:30 PM); inexpensive public fare paid at the port. Rough weather can still cut a sailing, so confirm before you travel.
When the Danao to Consuelo ferry is open, and what to expect at the gate
- The board, both ways
- Four sailings a day each way, and the same four times in both directions: 5:30 AM, 8:30 AM, 2:30 PM and 5:30 PM. Three current sources give the identical board, so these are real clock times rather than a shape of the day
- The gap that catches people
- Nothing leaves Danao between 8:30 AM and 2:30 PM. Missing the 8:30 costs you six hours, not one, and it is the single reason a Camotes day goes wrong. Plan for the 8:30 and treat the 2:30 PM as the fallback, not the target
- When you have to be moving
- Counted back from the board on our own drive times, allowing an hour at the terminal: for the 8:30 AM, leave Cebu City or the airport by about 6:00 AM. For the 2:30 PM, by about midday. For the last 5:30 PM, by about 3:00 PM
- What the 5:30 PM actually buys
- It lands at Consuelo around 7:30-8:00 PM, and Santiago Bay is another 30-45 minutes across the causeway after that. It is a sailing that gets you there, not one that gets you an evening, so it suits an arrival night rather than a first day
- Coming back for a flight
- The 2:30 PM off Consuelo is the last one that works for a same-day departure: Danao by about 4:30-5:00 PM, terminal by early evening. The 5:30 PM reaches Danao around 7:30-8:00 PM and the airport late, so plan a night in Cebu around it rather than a check-in desk
- Check in earlier than you think
- Advice runs from 30 minutes (the operator-facing listing) to 60 (both booking agents). We build transfers on the 60, because a RORO loading vehicles closes its ramp on its own schedule and there is no next one for six hours
- There is also a Mactan fastcraft
- Jomalia runs a separate, faster Mactan to Consuelo crossing, about 1.5 hours against the RORO’s 2-2.5. Sources agree on 8:00 AM out of Mactan and 10:00 AM back; one lists a midday pair as well, the other does not, so confirm anything beyond the morning sailing before you build a day around it
- Settle the sailing before the car is booked. The road leg is the part we control and the part that flexes; the ferry is the fixed point, and on this corridor there are only four of them a day. Tell us the sailing you want, or your flight number, and we time the pickup backwards from it with the terminal hour built in.
- The board is also the honest answer to "can we day-trip Camotes?". Out on the 8:30 you are ashore around 10:30-11:00 AM, and the 2:30 PM back has you leaving again after roughly three and a half hours on the island, most of it spent getting to and from Santiago Bay. Taking the 5:30 PM back instead is a full day, but it puts you in Cebu City well after 9:00 PM. One night is not us upselling you, it is what the timetable pays for.
- Weather sits on top of all of this. Sailings are reduced or suspended in a heavy swell, and with four crossings a day a cancellation has no realistic same-day workaround. It is why the margin matters more here than the timetable does, and why we would rather quote you the earlier boat.
Add stops on the way to the pier
What we run on this route is the road leg to the pier, so the stops go on this side of the water: lunch, a viewpoint, a shop before you sail, with your bags staying in the car. The crossing itself is your own booking. Tell us the sailing you are aiming for and we work the pickup and the stops backwards from check-in.
- The car waits wherever you stop
- Luggage stays in the vehicle
- Fuel, tolls and parking included
- Entrance fees paid locally, as you go
We'll pre-fill Cebu City → Camotes Islands (via Danao port). Put the stops you want in the notes box and we'll come back with one all-in price.
What the quote covers
- A private air-conditioned car or van with an English-speaking local driver for the whole journey
- Door-to-door pickup and drop-off at the exact addresses you give us, not a meeting point
- Fuel, tolls and parking
- Waiting time and any extra stops you tell us about up front, priced into the quote rather than added afterwards
- One fixed all-in price for the trip, agreed in writing before you travel
- Entrance, activity, guide and boat fees at places you choose to stop (paid locally)
- Meals and personal spending
- Accommodation, including a driver overnight on a multi-day trip unless we have set it out in the quote
- Inter-island ferry and boat crossings, unless we have set them out in the quote
We never invent activity or entrance prices - you pay those directly on the ground.
Cebu City to Camotes Islands: FAQs
How do you get to Camotes Islands from Cebu City?
Drive north to Danao City port (about 35 km, 1 to 1.5 hours), then take the Danao to Consuelo roll-on-roll-off ferry to Poro Island (about 2 to 2.5 hours). There is no bridge to Camotes. Cebu.travel arranges a private transfer from your hotel to Danao port timed to your sailing - request a quote.
Is there a direct bus or ferry to Camotes from Cebu City?
There is no direct through-service from Cebu City. Ferries to Camotes leave from Danao, 35 km north, so you travel there first (by private car or a Ceres bus from the North Bus Terminal) and then board the Danao to Consuelo ferry. There is also a faster Mactan to Consuelo boat, but it sails from a pier over on Mactan island rather than from the city. A private transfer joins the two legs and gets you to whichever terminal with your check-in hour intact.
How long does it take to get to Camotes from Cebu City?
Allow roughly half a day door to door: about 1 to 1.5 hours by road to Danao, then a 2 to 2.5 hour ferry, plus check-in and the drive to your resort on the far side. Traffic north out of Cebu is the main variable, which is why many travellers with luggage choose a private transfer.
What time do the Camotes ferries run?
Four a day, each way, at 5:30 AM, 8:30 AM, 2:30 PM and 5:30 PM. The gap is what catches people out: nothing leaves Danao between 8:30 AM and 2:30 PM, so a missed morning boat costs six hours rather than one. Counting back on our own drive times with an hour at the terminal, that means leaving Cebu City by about 6:00 AM for the 8:30, about midday for the 2:30, and about 3:00 PM for the last one. Rough weather can still cut a sailing, so check close to your travel date and we will time the transfer around it.
Can you do the return trip, Camotes Islands back to Cebu City?
Yes - we meet your ferry at the pier and drive you back to Cebu City, the same road leg in reverse. The crossing stays your own booking, as on the way out. Ask for both legs in one quote request and we price them together.
What does the price for Cebu City to Camotes Islands include?
The quote is one fixed all-in price for the private vehicle leg, agreed in writing before you travel, and fuel, tolls and parking are inside it - along with any waiting time or extra stops you tell us about when you ask. Because this trip involves a sea crossing, the ferry or boat ticket is not in that figure unless we have set it out for you: tell us your crossing and we will say plainly what we are quoting for and what you book yourself. Entrance and activity fees at anywhere you stop, and your meals, are paid locally.
