Bohol: the easy add-on, no extra flight

Bohol sits a fast ferry away from Cebu City, about two hours to Tagbilaran: no flight, no extra airport, just a boat. That makes it the simplest island to add to a Cebu trip.

It is best known for the Chocolate Hills, the tiny tarsiers and a Loboc River lunch cruise. With an overnight you add Panglao’s white-sand beaches and boat trips to Balicasag.

Boracay: pure beach, a short flight away

Boracay is a different kind of trip: a small island whose whole reputation rests on one beach, the powdery White Beach, backed by a dense strip of resorts, restaurants and nightlife. People go for the beach and the resort experience, not for variety.

Cebu connects to Boracay by a direct flight to Caticlan, its nearest airport, in around 1 hour 15 minutes on several carriers. From Caticlan a short boat crosses to the island.

Because it is a flight rather than a ferry, most visitors treat Boracay as its own stop of several days rather than a side trip from Cebu.

Palawan (El Nido & Coron): lagoons and islands, its own leg

Palawan is really two separate hubs on one long island, plus a gateway city. They are a few hours apart by land and boat, not next door, so Palawan rewards a longer, dedicated trip.

Is Cebu or Palawan better for island hopping?

Both offer island hopping, but the style differs. Cebu’s island trips (Bantayan, Malapascua, Camotes, Siquijor, plus the Oslob whale sharks and Sumilon sandbar) sit within a couple of hours of the mainland by road and short boat. Palawan’s island-hopping, especially around El Nido, is built around turquoise limestone lagoons and is a bigger, more dedicated trip, about a 1 hour 45 minute direct flight from Cebu.
